  • Spring 2014 Updates (Friday, March 7, 2014)
Students and Faculty Using a Mac with Collaborate, the Web Conferencing Application

Apple has created a new security policy which will require you to manually approve a Java applet which Collaborate needs to run successfully.

In Firefox, open a Blackboard Collaborate session:
    Blackboard>Tools>Blackboard Collaborate.

Click on the title of the session you want to join.

This action will download the Java applet you need.

Go to your desktop and you will find a Java applet which has just downloaded.  CONTROL+CLICK on the applet. Then click on OPEN.

Click on OPEN again, and then confirm that you want the applet to RUN.

If you are a student and own a tablet or smartphone, you will find it much faster to skip the steps above, and skip the desktop version of Collaborate. Instead download the Collaborate app from the Mac apps store, or from the Google Play Store. Install the app. Then click on the session name in Blackboard, or click on the link in an email from your professor and Collaborate will open automatically.

If Collaborate publicizes a quicker solution for faculty with Macs, we will share it with you.

How to Copy Content into a New Blackboard Course

(Start the copy process in the older course which is your source; the new Spring course is the destination. And as you make the copy, please remember that the Spring course is an existing course since it is already in the system. This copy process may take up to thirty minutes so ignore the confirmation email which Blackboard sends out immediately. Please do not work in the destination course while the copying is being done.)

Save Time by Uploading Multiple Files at Once to a Content Area

Create a zip file in Windows or the Mac OS containing the files.
Upload all the files to the Content area. (Blackboard will automatically extract the zipped files and add them to the Content area.)
